Your Policy Summary

Some important facts about your insurance are summarised below. This summary does not describe all the terms and conditions of your policy, so please take time to read the policy document to make sure you understand the cover it provides. This Policy Summary does not form part of the contract between us.

When buying Getcover travel insurance you should read all data presented to you and you should only confirm your acceptance of any Declarations when you are sure that you and all other insured parties conform with the relevant declaration.

Eligibility for this policy

You should also be aware that our policies are only available to persons who are:

  1. resident in the Republic of Ireland (for at least 6 months of the year)
  2. registered with a medical practitioner in the Republic of Ireland
  3. in the Republic of Ireland at the time of purchasing the policy and before starting any trip
  4. all trips must begin and end in the Republic of Ireland

The cover commencement date of your policy

No cover, including cancellation cover, will apply before cover commences.
For Single Trips cover commences from the date that the policy is paid for.
For Multi Trip policies cover commences on the start date of the policy not the date that the policy is paid for.

Length of trips on Annual policies

Annual multi-trip policies do not provide cover for trips over 31 days in length, or 90 days in length in the case of Standard or Premium policies where you have chosen the extended trip cover option. If your trip exceeds the limit you should purchase a Backpacker policy.

Family definition

A husband/wife/civil partner or partner (who have co-habited for at least 6 months), plus any number of their unmarried, dependent children/grandchildren (including fostered or adopted), all aged under 18 years for single trips or under 23 for annual policies, at the time of purchase of the policy, who are living at home, in full time education. Independent travel is allowed by all persons including children.

If the child is in full time education at a college or university in or out the Republic of Ireland and:

  1. Resides at the home address in Ireland for up to and including 3 nights of the week – we can cover that child under a family rated policy and they would be covered for any independent travel; or
  2. Resides at the home address in Ireland for less than 3 nights a week – we can cover that child under a family rated policy, but they are only covered whilst travelling with a family member insured under the family rated annual policy (ie the child at university/college would not be covered for a holiday away with the girls/lads).

TRAVEL DELAY + COVER

If you purchased a Premium level Getcover policy on or after the 1st June 2019, you may be able to avail of the Airport Lounge facilities while you wait for your delayed flight.

Lounge access will only become available on the announcement of a minimum two-hour delay, not, for example, two consecutive one-hour delays.

What you are covered for
If the outbound flight from the Republic of Ireland on which you are booked to travel is announced as delayed by at least four hours as a result of

  1. strike or industrial action provided that when this policy was taken out, there was no reasonable expectation that the trip would be delayed;
  2. adverse weather conditions;
  3. mechanical breakdown or technical fault of the aircraft.

You must have access to a mobile device so that you can receive an SMS message in order to gain access to the lounge.

Otherwise, your normal travel delay cover will apply and we would refer you to your policy document.

To take advantage of this benefit you will need to call one of the following :

  1. If you purchased a Premium level Getcover Policy on or after 31st May 2019 call 01 290 8879.
  2. If you purchased a Premium level Getcover Policy between 1st June 2018 and the 30th May 2019 call 01 290 8878.

You will need to quote your policy number and flight details. If your claim is valid you will then be sent an SMS message which will give you access to an airport lounge for the duration of your delay.

There may be occasions when this benefit is unavailable:

  1. If the lounge is closed when the delay occurs – during the night, for instance
  2. If the lounge is at full capacity
  3. If you or another insured person fail to meet the lounge terms and conditions such as dress code or minimum age.
